The Passover “Four Questions” (Ma Nishtana מה נשתנה) in Mandarin Chinese

At the heart of the Jewish Passover Seder are the "Four Questions" (Ma Nishtana) traditionally sung by the youngest person at the table. Increasingly, Passover Seders are organized and attended by people who speak Mandarin Chinese. We searched without success for a musical rendition of the Four Questions translated to Chinese.

The Consulate General of the People’s Republic of China in San Francisco honored winners of the November 2024 China Bridge competition. My son Sam方平山 was asked to make a five minute speech, in which he talked about his experiences “growing up” in China through frequent visits, his friendship with China, and his lifelong love of the classic Chinese folk tale Ma Liang and the Magic Brush.
